Góðan Daginn

and welcome to my blog! I'm an American living in Iceland with a desire to see the world. Here is where I document my life, travels, recipes, thoughts and ideas.

Sailboat

Sailboat

A dream.
A whisper.
A feeble prayer.

I lay on my back and let the waves overtake me. Lying on a beach somewhere across the sea.  Floating. I am at peace. Where is the sailboat to take me? To guide me home?

Capsized.

My feet can touch the bottom of the sea. I run back and fourth till my breath dissipates.
Something's wrong with the pace I run. My feet are twisted and my body is numb.
I freeze in place to this unimaginable sensation. As I lie defeated with joy.

Your hand.
Your breath.
It cannot be explained.
It is a whirlwind of mixed emotions.
I find myself wrapped in excitement, fear and joy.
How can this be?
How can the mesh of all my thoughts actually be good?
Why do I feel fine?
Why does my heart beat so quickly?
Why am I falling back into the sea?
Why am I falling beneath myself?
Why do I love?
Why is love freely given?
Why is hate stopping the free fall?
Why can't I just be, in a sea of salt with my open wounds.
I just want to be free.

Here I wait for the sailboat to take me.
Find me and shake me, take me to shore.
If you love me, let me be.
If you love me, set me free.
Stop the hate and drowning screams,
I just wanted safety, I wanted a home.
But now I am drowning, I feel alone.

Oh freedom reigns, freedom rings.
Sailboat guide me. Take me home.
